Arcola, IL: Tree Work at Amish Country's Edge

Arcola, Illinois is a Douglas County city of about 2,927 people where US-45 and IL-133 cross and I-57 runs by on the west, around twenty-three road miles and half an hour from our shop. The Illinois Central platted it in 1855, and by the late 1800s it was a broom corn center, still honored at the Broom Corn Festival.

Raggedy Ann creator Johnny Gruelle was born here, and IL-133 west of town leads into the largest Old Order Amish settlement in Illinois. For us Arcola means old brick blocks with mature silver maples, sugar maples and oaks over close-set houses, ringed by flat farmland where redcedar and dead ash windbreaks mark each farmstead.

Why a Charleston Crew Comes to Arcola

Why We're a Good Fit for Arcola

Half an Hour Up US-45, Grouped With Tuscola

Arcola is on our northern run. Megan books estimates alongside Tuscola and Humboldt work, and you pay what a Charleston job costs.

Railroad-Town Maples Over Tight Lots

Big maples on Arcola's older streets stand a few feet from porches, alleys and parked cars. We take them down from the top, cover the walks and keep the truck out of traffic.

Farmstead Windbreaks on the Flat

Douglas County is about as flat as Illinois gets, so windbreaks catch the full force of a straight-line wind. We pull failing redcedar and dead ash, keep sound trees, and grind stumps for replanting.

City Code, Honest Answer

Arcola runs its own city office. We found no permit for a tree on your own lot; if one reaches a city street or parkway, check with the office first, and we'll help.

Questions We Hear in Arcola

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Arcola?

Not for a tree on your own lot; we found no Douglas County permit for private land. The rules that bite are about the street: limbs over it need clearance, and a dead tree threatening the road can be ruled a nuisance. If your Arcola tree reaches a public street or walk, a quick call to the local office comes first. See our permits page.
