Windsor, Illinois is a Shelby County city of about 1,079 people where IL-32 turns north off IL-16 at Hickory Street, about twenty-four miles and forty minutes west of our shop straight out IL-16 through Mattoon. It's the western edge of our route and our only Shelby County town.

Just past town, Wolf Creek State Park sits on the east shore of Lake Shelbyville, the 11,100-acre Kaskaskia River reservoir that began filling in 1970. Town lots carry silver and sugar maple, hackberry and red oak, but toward the lake the ground turns to white oak, red oak, shagbark hickory and black walnut timber, with cottonwood and sycamore in wet draws and plenty of standing dead ash.
